Introduction

An introduction to the role of software testing, with an immediately applicable foundation in all the core topics of methodical software testing across all industries. This comprehensive course covers all the fundamental aspects of software testing and its benefits in both traditional and agile project environments.

After attending our training course, participants will be familiar with the basic concepts of testing, different testing approaches and their strengths and weaknesses. They will be able to identify and implement the activities appropriate to their needs and to assess the quality of the resulting documents and the efficiency of testing. They will know how to improve testing and to adapt the testing process to the surrounding software development life cycle. They will understand the principles of test management and the impact of risks on testing, as well as the factors that influence test prioritisation and effort.

They will see their role as part of a cross-functional team, identify the skills required for testing, and have practised techniques such as writing clear and effective reports on defects, test progress, and quality. They will also have considered the risks and benefits of test automation.

This seminar covers the contents of the official ISTQB® syllabus and is accredited by the German Testing Board. It provides you with the ideal preparation for taking the exam to obtain the "ISTQB® Certified Tester Foundation Level" certificate.

  • What is testing, why is it necessary and how does it contribute to success?
  • Testing terms and definitions
  • Testing Principles
  • Testing activities, tools and roles (testing activities and tasks, the testing process in context, traceability between test basis and testware, roles of testing)
  • Skills and good practices (whole team approach, independence of testing)
  • Testing as part of the software development lifecycle - interdependencies and good practices (e.g., DevOps and testing, shift-left approach, retrospectives and process improvement)
  • Test levels and test types, debugging and regression testing
  • Static testing (fundamentals, feedback and review process)
  • Test analysis and design (black-box testing, white-box testing, experience-based testing, collaborative testing approaches, e.g., ATDD)
  • Management of test activities (test planning, risk management, test monitoring, test control and closure, configuration and defect management)
  • Test tools (tool support for testing, benefits and risks of test automation)

This course opens up the professional field of software testing to everyone, regardless of their technical background. Accordingly, experience of software, whether in use or in development, is useful but not essential.
